Teaching procedures
Step 1: Warming-up
1. Greetings.
2. Enjoy a song. Have students think about when and where people will hear the song and what the theme of this song is. This simple melody, with its words of comfort, becomes a beloved hymn of peace throughout the world.

Step 2: Pre-reading
Free-talk about what comes to their mind when Christmas is mentioned. Then make an introduction: Christmas Day, on December 25, is one of the most festive Christian holidays in many countries around the world. It celebrates Jesus’ birth. Many homes have Christmas trees and other decorations in the weeks leading to Christmas Day. Some workplaces hold Christmas parties before December 25. Festive activities include exchanging presents, singing Christmas songs, going to parties. It’s a special time when children get presents from family, friends and Santa Claus, or Father Christmas. Christmas cards are also given or sent out before Christmas Day.
Step 3: While-reading
1. Have students read the article quickly and summarize the main idea. (The author describes his family’s activities on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.)
2. Encourage students to scan the passage and circle all the timelines and finish the table with information found in the passage. 7 minutes will be given. Invite some to share their reading. Give positive feedback.
3. Guide students to summarize the characteristics of narration.
Elements: when, where, who, what, why, how
Point of view: a narrative essay must be written from a particular point of view ( first person point of view, third person point of view).
Order: in narration, time structures all details. It is called chronological order or time order.
Tense: stories happened in the past. So generally we use past tense in narration.
Step 4: Post-reading
Group discussion.
1. How do they feel about the memories of Christmas?
2. Compared with Christmas, which Chinese festival brings you back the memories of similar feelings?
5 minutes are given for discussion. Then invite some groups to share and explain.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
Summary: summarize today’s lesson and tell students that festivals not only can always bring people joy and fun, but also convey some cultural meaning, therefore, we should pass down our Chinese festivals and spread them to the whole world.
Homework: ask students to share their memories in one of the Chinese festivals.

In my opinion, there are the following the advantages of using first person narration.
First, it will put readers inside the narrator’s mind. Through the description of the feelings and other thoughts, the author can communicate with the readers. His love, hopes, fears and despair will be directly brought to the readers. Also, readers could show strong empathy for the main character’s motivation and responses to situations.
Second, it makes it easier for the narrator to say whatever he wants, which is impossible with third-person narration.
