My community

Teaching aims

Students are able to master the new vocabulary such as “go straight”, “turn left”, “forward”.

Students will develop their listening abilities to catch keywords.

Students will get familiar with the topic of giving directions and apply the target language into daily life.

Students can cultivate the precious virtue of helping others through created situations.

To acquire the words and sentence patterns about giving directions like “how can I get to the newspaper stand?”, “Go straight and turn left”.

Teaching procedures

Step 1: Warming-up

1. Greetings.

2. Let students enjoy a song named The direction song and ask them what the song is about. The song goes like this:

Are you ready?

Jump to the left,

Jump to the right,

Jump forward,

And jump back.

Turn around and touch the ground,

Turn to the left and turn to the right.

Jump up and down and clap your hands.

Ask students to answer the question. Then tell them that the song is about giving directions and lead into the topic.

Step 2: Pre-listening

1. Guide the class to talk about where they live by showing pictures of the teacher’s neighborhood on the power points.

2. Lead students to describe where their homes are by drawing a simple map on the paper.

Step 3: While-listening

1. Extensive listening

Play the recording for students. Ask them to take notes and find out who are talking in the conversation. Then invite one student to talk about it and give positive feedback.

2. Intensive listening

Ask students to answer two questions and pay attention to the key words while listening:

Q1: Where does the lady want to get?

Q2: How does Lily tell the lady which way to go?

After listening to the tape, invite students to share their findings and use the map to show their answers. Then guide students to repeat the target sentences and write them on the blackboard.

3. Ask students to roleplay in pairs to imitate the intonation and pronunciation.

Step 4: Post-listening

Create a situation where our new foreign teacher is coming next week and she would like to meet students and their parents in person.

Ask students to make a conversation to show the way to their home based on the map they drew at the beginning. Ten minutes will be given. After that, invite students to share their works in the front.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

Summary: invite a student to be a little teacher and summarize today’s lesson. Ask students how they feel when they help others and let them understand that giving a hand is a heart-warming thing to do.

Homework: ask students to do one thing that can help their friends or family and share it in the next lesson.

我们可以通过向学生展示或为其他人开展慈善活动,教导学生帮助有需要的人。

首先,开展行动教学。开展志愿者学生活动。志愿者活动可以成为灌输学生给予感的好方法。它还提出了帮助不仅仅是一个想法的想法,而是随着年龄的增长他们可以继续的做法。

这是一堂听说课,通过帮人指路这样的情境,理解并学习怎样给出指令。同学们在本堂课中通过课堂活动可以习得 “how can I get to the newspaper stand”与“go straight and turn left.”并能把这些句式应用于实际生活中是本课的教学重点。

在学习的过程中,从别人帮助他人过渡到自己帮助别人,在课堂中体验助人为乐的感受,使学生们可以在今后的生活中把这份友善的爱传递给更多的人是本堂课的难点。

我会在课前充分准备,课上积极引导,并在课后继续巩固,以达成本堂课教学目标。
