How tall are you?

Teaching aims:

Knowledge aims:

Students can understand the content of the short conversation.

Students can know the form and the usage of comparative degree.

Ability aims:

Students will improve their listening abilities by catching some detailed information after listening the dialogue.

Students will learn to use comparative degree to compare things.

Emotional aim:

Students can be more interested in using English to talk about their weight and height in daily life.

Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Warming-up

1. Greetings.

2. Let students enjoy a song named Get tall, tall and ask them to find the main topic of this song. The song goes like this:

I want to be taller.

Then follow along with us.

Up, up, up, up

Tall, tall, tall, tall

Put your arms, stretch, stretch, up, up, up

Get tall, tall, tall

Put your leg out, stretch, stretch out, out

Get tall, tall, tall

Will this actually make me get taller?

After listening, students will find the topic. Then lead in the lesson they are going to learn today, which is about height and weight.

Step 2: Pre-listening

Show students some pictures of different artoon characters such as Doreamon, Donald Duck and so on to teach them some new words: “centimeter”, “kilogram” “heavier” “taller” and new sentence pattern

-How tall are you?

-I’m...centimeters tall.

-How much do you weigh?

-I weigh .... kilograms.

Step 3: While-listening

1. Read the dialogue for students and ask them to find the questions from the listening material.

Then invite one student to share his or her findings. The teacher will write the questions on the blackboard.

2. Play the tape and ask students to answer two questions:

Q1: How tall is Ann?

Q2: How much does Cathy weigh?

Then invite students to share their answers and the teacher will write them on the blackboard.

Step 4: Post-listening

Ask students to do role-play by using the sentence patterns they just learned according to the other two pictures on their books. 5 minutes are given for them to prepare. Then invite some groups to perform.

Step 5: Summary and Homework

Summary: invite a student to be a little teacher and summarize today’s lesson.

Homework: ask students to make a conversation with their friends after class to talk about their height and weight.

In a class, especially primary English class, games can motivate students to participate in the activities. More importantly, during the game, students can better understand and grasp the new knowledge. Below I will introduce two games: the first one is a game called flash card. By showing pictures to students, students should quickly say the words the pictures represent. The game can deepen students' understanding of the words they have just learned.The second one is a game called High and low voice. Differently, this game is mainly to help students master the pronunciation of words, through the teacher's guidance, the teacher read the word loudly, the students read it quietly and vice versa.

在课堂中,尤其像我们小学英语课堂中,游戏能够很好地调动学生们参与课堂,更重要的是,游戏过程中,学生们能更好地理解掌握所学新知。以下我将介绍两种游戏:第一是闪卡游戏。这种游戏通过向学生们展示图片,让学生们快速反应说出图片所代表的单词,该游戏可以加深学生们对于刚刚所学单词的熟悉度及理解程度。第二是大小声游戏。相比之下,大小声游戏主要是帮助学生们掌握单词发音,通过老师的引导,老师读大声,学生们读小声,反之再进行一次。还有很多在小学英语课堂上可以使用的游戏,在此由于时间关系不多介绍。

Thank you for your question. I am not an English major. I majored in Chinese in university, but even so, my passion for English has never stopped. In my spare time, I read a lot of English books in the library. I also listen to English songs and watch English movies to improve my pronunciation and intonation. Whenever I have an opportunity, I will actively participated in the English corner or English lectures and have conversations with foreign friends. However, compared with the knowledge English majors learned, these are not enough. Therefore, I will continue to work hard to learn more English knowledge and also knowledge about education and teaching, so as to truly become an English teacher.

感谢考官的提问,我不是英语专业生。在大学期间,我所修专业是中文,但是即使如此,我对于英语的喜爱却一直没有停止过。在学习专业课之余,我会到图书馆阅读大量英文书刊,平时也会听英文歌曲看看英文电影学习英语语音语调,一有机会,我也积极地参与到英语角,英语讲座,与外国朋友交谈。但我深知,这些和英语专业生所学习的知识相比,还远远不够,因此,在以后的日子里,我还将继续努力,学习更多的英语知识和教育教学的知识,真正成为一名英语教师。
